I am so glad I got to be apart of the October 5th skate fest and can’t wait for the next one. I’m excited to see who they bring out next. It’s really interesting to be a part of some of the behind the scene stuff going on to promote and prepare for US Nationals in January of 2025. One thing that was really cool to see was how much outreach and interaction was going on between W.I.C., the LTS coaches, US Figure Skating, and the local community. I loved watching all of the kids who’ve never skated before figuring it out slowly and watching their faces light up when Kaitlyn Hawayek came over to help our group or when they started having fun on the ice.
That is my absolute favorite part of coaching: watching a new skater realize how amazing skating is and starting to slowly fall in love with the ice. It was really motivating to see so many new skaters realizing they like skating all at the same time on the ice. It really was a cool experience. I’m hoping for the next one I can get some content during it so I can bring you guys along with me a little bit more and show you just how cool, metaphorically and physically, it was (I froze my butt of during those 4hrs, but totally worth it).
I posted some photos and content on Instagram from the skate fest. You can explore them by visiting my page @rainey.days.skatingÂ
